What is 3D Laser Scanning?
3D Laser Scanning is a non-contact, non-destructive technology that digitally captures any environment and objects within it and places it in a 3D virtual world as an exact replica of what exists. Typically, the 3D scan data is represented with a scale digital model or a 3D graphical rendering. 3D scan data is often used as a bridge between physical objects and modern manufacturing. This is achieved by converting the data into computer-aided design (CAD) models.

By using 3D scan data, a physical object can be translated directly to the engineering phase of a project and moved on from there. 3D scan data is often used to perform CFD, CAE, FEA and other engineering analysis on objects that have been manufactured and then physically modified.

3D Laser Scanning is used to analyze the "as-built" condition of facilities after they have been built. Typically, non-contact technology is used to quickly inspect and determine overall dimensions, quickly detecting issues which could delay repairs. 3D Laser Scanning is well suited to analyze bolt-hole locations, elevation changes and abnormal orientation. 3D Laser Scanning is used in combination with statistical analysis software to maintain and predict quality on your live or constructing facility.
